We pulled off the road on the way back from Coeur d'Alene a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't resist squeezing through the barbed-wire fence to photograph this scene. Our week-long trip was one of most amazing vacations we've ever taken as a family. The simplicity of it all just seemed perfect. No wake-up time. No daily schedule. No expectations. We spent the week just "being", and it was like breathing fresh mountain air for the first time. We shared a house with our close friends Andre & Christine, and their three amazing kids. We swam in the lake, had burgers from a place that's been there since 1907, and sipped coffee in the morning sunlight on a covered front porch. It was truly an illustration of what it all comes down to: Friends, family, and life's most basic offerings. Those are the things that sustain us all; whether we take the time to realize them or not.
